They look machine made, which of course they are, the top is stamped into the glasses also the chain is very different quality.

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

the simplified cheaper version with a stamped top is selling on streets now ---but our particular customers say they won't wear it.
strange to think about 1987 when we made our first pair and now it can be copied without giving us credit!!!!!!!

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

Hot Glue would work SO much better, i think.

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

i just wanna know what store can i get those at , i dont have time to make them .

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

thank you :D

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

those sunglasses cost 13 dollars around here
but i love this post i might need to try this

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

omg! ive been lookin for these freakin glasses forever! but like u im an artsy person i plan on diy ing these frames tomorrow! another design i would like to try or see u try is wrap around like star trak frames completely covered in rhinestones! the good kind too u know wit tha colors reflectin off! yeah that would be crazy!

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

I think this DIY is fabulous! I have talked to the Mercura NYC people many times, and this is all taken care of. DIYs are always controversial, but sometimes you guys are just going too far. It was shocking! MERCURA NYC IS STILL MAKING MORE VARIATIONS ON CHAIN GLASSES INCLUDING SUN\GLASSES AND READING GLASSES AND SELLING TO ALL WISHING THE BEST QUALITY OF THEIR OWN DESIGN.

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

You can see the original chain sunglasses in magazine from the 1980's and 1990's. They were made by MERCURA NYC, worn by Debbie Gibson among other musicians. The MERCURA NYC CHAINS were filmed on Bobby Brown in the 1980's and owned by several interesting people at the Chelsea Hotel NYC including Shirley Clarke in 1988. Jose Eber in LA carried the line for many years, until he passed and a new manager took over the beauty center. Shops in New York, like Barney's at 17th Street had them in their windows and there is an article about the original copywright by MERCURA NYC SUNGLASSES in a 1989 newspaper, as they were so popular.
MERCURA NYC SUNGLASSES still makes them and Hilory Beckford(management of models and mom of Tyson) wears them, as does Lil Kim, Marc Suefentes and a series of divas.
The others or rip offs are claiming they were "inspired" by MERCURA NYC SUNGLASSES, but stylists see the copy cat situation is dangerous to innovative thinkers who have to make a living too!
Check Rachel Gilman's blog to see an American stylist's opinion!

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

Those on Rhiana are definitely copies by a young girl copying MERCURA NYC chains. All those sunglasses she makes look very “do it yourself” unlike the actual original designs. If she just made them for herself it would be fine. This country is in trouble with all these people trying to sell other people’s ideas as their own. It is sort of the end.

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

Those on Rhiana are definitely copies by a young girl copying MERCURA NYC chains. On Feb. 14 we accessorized the Barbie runway 50th anniversary show. Our sunglasses were shown with 8
very well known designers including Vera Wang, Nanette Lepore, Vena Cava, Marchesa, etc.
We have 2 large brass accessories in the Met Museum collection.
Our glasses have been on the cover of Details as early as 1988. We have designed thousands of pairs. The 4 pages of chain sunglasses in Numero last year are Mercura NYC.
Please feel free to contact us for more info'.

Re: FYI DIY: Chain Sunglasses (via Mercura NYC))

The original chain across the top glasses are Mercura Sunglasses designed in 1987 and we
have the original editorial in Mexican Vogue(worn with a Chanel suit) and other magazines.
Most recently our chains are worn by design celebrities and others.
